Radio station timeout was 5 seconds, I have just set it to 15 seconds
and tried again but get the same result.
Using 7.3.3 I had it set to 2 seconds and never had an issue. As there
is not alot in the error logs to go on I think I will have to admit
defeat and roll back to 7.3.3.

I amended the logging for xml & network to 'debug' and tried again,
initiating playback from the web interface (no parse error message but
does not play), then from the squeezebox directly(parse error message.

I have had a quick google and cannot find how to enable formats.xml or
network.asynchttp.
I am not that strong on Linux or Squeezecenter - but can follow
instructions.
Can anyone tell me where to enable these (or what commands I need to
enter)?

Thanks for the (fast) response. I am able to access the link from any
other PC on the network (and iPlayer was working OK on version 7.3
Squeezecenter) and I have a fast internet connection (9Mbps actual
throughput).

That probably means your server is unable to fetch the feed from the
BBC. I suggest
