I found a solution now, thank you for the hints...
It was not easy for me to understand the principle of trails with
trailindex and the correlation with pagelists und pageformats.
The other thing was, that there is no unique relationship between page
and category.

I experimented also with DynamicWikiTrails, which allows to keep the
trailindex as URL parm, which seem to work as expected.
A very basic question remains open in case of a category index.
I just made a trace test, to look wether it's possible
I use a pagelist - from Site.LocalTemplates

Use the parameter @@TrailPage@@ to set the return or parent page.
If not set it will default to the group of the pagelist.

I'm looking for a solution, so we can page through a category (as
usually provided by trails).
I haven't found an example yet for this problem on pmwiki.org. I
tested DynamicTrails, which works for Groups.
