I took some time at lunch today and got Win32::Daemon functional on my
system. I've attached a slightly hacked up version of your original
script that works with fork(). I would, however, suggest that
Olivier Mengué's work around described earlier in this thread is saner
than what I have
When it working with a server which used Non-IKC protocol,
alarm( $self-{connect_timeout} ) will break user process via
SIGALRM(default behaviour)

POE 1.280 has just been released, but it may take up to a day before
your favorite CPAN mirror catches wind of it. You'll also need the
latest POE::Test::Loops, version 1.030.
