Yes I agree it is messy. I will try to get it to create the records prior to
writing them out. It wont be easy and will take some time to patch.

I wouldn't wait on this patch before doing a development release.

I guess that would get you around the problem.  It seems a little messy 
though.  Is there any other way to trigger the creation of those records 
before writing out the stream?
