On January 16, 2000, at 8 P.M. Eastern Time NETA will feed a documentary called "Burning Questions" by Satellite to every public broadcast station in the United States. You are asked to contact your local PBS Station and ask them to record "Burning Questions" and broadcast it in the near future. Listed below is a brief outline of "Burning Questions". Thank you for your cooperation. We would appreciate knowing what PBS Station you contacted and their response. http://www.burningquestions.org Burning Questions Another Look at Poland1s Struggles During World War II One of the most under-reported tragedies of World War II is the intense suffering undergone by civilian Catholics in Poland at the hands of both the Nazi Germans and Communist Russians. Most people associate the term "Holocaust" exclusively with the brutal imprisonment, torture and extermination of Jews during the WWII by Germans. But a growing number of historians, such as Richard C. Lukas (Forgotten Holocaust), have attempted to demonstrate that Catholic Poles also faced ultimate extermination at the hands of the Nazis, but only after they had been exploited as slaves. At last, filmmaker Mishael Porembski has prepared a compelling video documenting her father1s harrowing experience as a young boy in Nazi-occupied Poland. With keen sensitivity to the uniquely tragic plight of Jews, Porembski respectfully raises the question of the Polish Christian holocaust, using her father1s story as the framework for her investigation. Puzzled by her father1s reluctance to speak about his wartime experiences, this young aspiring filmmaker convinced her father that he should return to Poland to make peace with his haunting memories and to help her gain insight into the uniquely Polish experience of World War II. This 58-minute video, completed at Ms. Porembski1s expense, offers an objective, yet at times deeply emotional, perspective on the Polish holocaust. In this often unsophisticated, yet deeply moving production, she documents her father1s reconciliation with his troubled past, and at the same time offers vital insight into the suffering of Polish Catholics at the hands of their brutal oppressors. This film is a welcome addition to holocaust and World War II studies.
