With "non-christian elements" I mean Greek elements/Hellenistic elements.
The first attempt of cleaning these elements out of the Christian (Catholic) faith is of cause Reformation not Protestantism.

I read Ratzinger's speech again, I think obviously one has to realize he writesfrom a Catholic perspective about the connection of Athens and Greek. A tinyhint: I think he doesn't narrow down reason to scientific reason only. As thecentral voice of the Catholic world he uses the word "soul"immediately when he starts to develop his argument, and that is the central"idea" the Catholic tradition adopted from Greece. The soul is the "alien"non-Christian, ultimately a pagan particle from the Protestant perspective asmaybe no one has better shown as the Swedish Protestant theologian AndersNygren. [and in this respect the Reformation is indeed the first attempt in separating the Church from it's Hellenistelements]

Ratzinger may be an arch conservative, but I have the impression that the over pleased comments on Pipes sidemiss the message just as much as the Islamist hard liners, annoyed as they maybe. [I simply haven't given up yet that something good will come out ofthis.]
There is not the slightest evidence that he says Jihad is bad AND that "JustWar" is good. [As Amadinedshad instinctively realized?]
During the former Pope's times Ratzinger already admitted to the wrongs done inthe name of God by the Church. And one has to keep in mind here in Cologne hemet with Muslims too, when he visited these synagogue. At this meeting he alreadywarned against the dangers of
modern jihad. [one sided as this my be from an anti-Colonialism perspective]

I live in Germany (I am not German) and it is frightening that people here donot react at all to the danger, which Islam brings and its everyday crimes.When I try to talk to the people about the hate Koran preaches towardsinfidels, the danger, which comes to the Europe together with Islam, most ofthe Germans react inadecvatly, accusing me being "islamophobic" andtrying to convince me that it is only small group of people, who are islamic fanatics,all other muslims are very good and peaceful people!!!
Now, I give you an example. We know that snakes are poisonous creatures.However, there are one or two types of snakes, which when bite- do not kill andare not deadly. Would any one of us ever risk to put in the room full of snakestheir own small child? Yes, in this room most of the snakes are poisonous butfew are not....I mean muslims and moderate muslims... But would you entrustyour child to the snake nest? Would you really trust muslims with all their religiousrules of lying to us (al Taqiyaa) and twisting the truth? With their believe ofsuperiority of their religion and their hate towards us, which they absorbalready with mother milk?
I do agree that Islam - is very dangerous cult. If in Germany Nazism isprohibited, so should be Islam!
All those "islamophobic" accusations are done by people, whodisregard the truth and hate democracy. Desire to be politically correct is ridiculoushere in Germany and especially in Great Britain. Political correctnessunfortunately do not represent the truth - under Hitler it
was politically correct to consider other non-arians "untermenschen"-subhumans usw and do the crimes. In time of Hitler very small amount ofGermans, due to political correctness, objected him... Later those Nazicriminals were tried in Nürenberg process. Their arguments: "Yes, wegassed and killed people, but we were ordered to do so" - did not helpedthem. Has anybody called persecutors Nazistophobic? Who were the guitly ones -those who were accused or persecutors?
That is why is so important to keep a clear head and have our own opinion aboutcrimes, which we are pushed to do by our own government - "Islam is religionof peace", immigration policies which permits millions of those dangerouscult members come to Europe, live with us
and cherish plans to enslave and kill us...
That is why I am so thankful for such people like you Mr Kaze , for DanielPipes sites and other honest sites, who are doing all what is possilbe to be"real Humans" and not the evil possesed fanatics.
Guys, thank you so much for being a brave and good humans, Christians and goodcitizens! Be strong! Do not bend under the threats of Islamofaschists! Tell thetruth to other people! Try to saw the seeds of Truth here and there! We need itso much! It may also help some of
