i can't seem to setup socks proxying through ssh on firefox 3.5.3,
and because i tried everything i could think of, i am asking here
if itsn't perchance some regression...

Lua's loadlib doesn't use RTLD_GLOBAL, which as I've found out, causes
trouble when you load a library that loads other libraries. You can
search the interwebs and find several examples, but the Lua people don't
seem to want to change this, reasons unclear. Patching the ports version
is easie
