An alpha-rc1 version of lua-5.4 was announced yesterday:

Enclosed is a WIP port plus scaffolding. One unfortunate caveat is that
you have to comment out MASTER_SITES from lang/lua/Makefile.inc in order
to fetch the tarball sinc

It is such an amazing business-friendly but risk-ignorant pattern to
simply restart software that has failed.
It's like you keep flying a plane that falls out of the sky twice,
rather than cease operation, figure out what is wrong, and fix it before
continuing.
