I'd like to know if there is a reason that auctex is only for
emacs21. It would be great to use auctex with emacs22 (and emacs23

Are you going to update Auctex? The OpenBSD port version in current is
11.14 while the latest stable version is 11.85. I just compiled it manually.
It feels like they fixed few things and they
