I'm a disc jockey on Britain's leading Country Music radio station -
rather aptly titled Country Music Radio for Europe. My new Showtime is
Thursday evenings from 10pm (British time), 11pm in Europe. It has
replaced my old Tuesday night show.

The format of the show is the same - i.e. "The Singer Songwriter
Show" with heavy slants on Americana, Country Rock, Roots Rock,
Alternative Country, No Depression, Insurgent Country, Country Blues,
Bluegrass and Contemporary Folk..........!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Expect to hear the old faves:

Lucinda Williams, Steve Earle, Alison Krauss, Neal Casal, Stacey Earle,
Emmylou Harris, John Prine, Hank Williams, Bonnie Raitt, Shawn Colvin,
John Hiatt, Gillian Welch, Patty Griffin, The Jayhawks, Show of Hands,
The Dead Reckoners, Kate Campbell, Steve Forbert, MCC .....

Instead of having regular live sessions I broadcast live music as
performed in London's top Singer Songwriter venue The Kashmir Klub. It's
an exciting development of the programme and I'm delighted to be joined
at the hip with this cool venue.

Saturday 13th March 1999 at THE SPITZ 8/7

Those Magnificent Men + The Blazing Homesteads + Dave Sutherland

TMM (as they are fondly known in the Paterson camp) a new name to
many - but once you see their pedigree you'll be curious as hell to see
them live. A country rock band comprised of band members of The Bootleg
Beatles (George), World Party and The Robbie Williams Band. Their debut
album on Way Out West records "What Kind of Country Is This" spawns two
songs on the soundtrack to "Sliding Doors". It's British and it's
authentic. This will be their last gig before performing at this month's
South By South West (SXSW'99) Festival of good roots music in Austin,
Texas.

There's no easy way to describe the music of The Blazing Homesteads, a
band whose influences are as diverse as Cajun and Bluegrass, Celtic
Folk and Power Pop! Their debut album "Another Country" is a fiery
affair and has been finally released on A New Day records. This music is
an infectious combination of melodic songwriting with a punchy rhythm of
mandolins, banjos and fiddles. Last summer they completed a summer of
festivals including Sidmouth, Guildford and Cambridge. They've just been
confirmed for Cropredy this year. They are Britain's best part-time
band, and are regular visitors on my CMR broadcast.

Greenwich's Dave Sutherland was one of my best discoveries
of 1997. His repertoire incorporates lightning-fast guitar riffs,
haunting ballads, country-blues, Celtic fiddle tunes and upbeat pop
classics. This unique blend of songwriting with a distinctly British
sound makes Dave extremely popular in America. He's already toured there
with Squeeze front man Glenn Tilbrook and returned there in October last
year on an intensive tour of 19 gigs in 17 days. His debut album
entitled "Navigator" was produced by folk legend Bert Jansch; and Dave
has just finished recording his new album "Comfortable Junction" - more
in the Americana feel - which would suggest that success in this country
is imminent. He is from good pedigree and will stun you into oblivion.

Wednesday 31st March 1999 at THE 12-BAR CLUB (6/5)

Must + Tinpots + The Canebrake Quartet

Tinpots are a London six piece based around the songwriting of lead
singer (and band founder) Philip Davis. The new incarnation evolved in
January 1998 - with a style so eclectic it's easier to describe the band
set up: lead vocals and guitar, lead guitar, saxophone, trumpet, T-chess
bass and drums. They've become 12-Bar regulars and developed a steady
following. They've recorded an EP full of originality, passion, melody -
and above all unforgettable songs.

Similar to what Billy Bragg and Wilco did last year to the lyrics of the
late Woody Guthrie, this alternative country four piece from Nashville
not only adopted the lyrics - but the name of a Southern 1950s band The
Canebrake Quartet. In a very religious area, the original Canebrake
Quartet created a sort of religion of their own, based on the southern
art of storytelling. The new Canebrake Quartet are currently plotting a
revival - taking up the old men's crusade and have vowed to not let one
tale go untold. Don't miss them. They certainly won't miss you.

Sunday 18th April 1999 at THE SPITZ (7/6)

Neal Casal with support from Kenny Roby (formerly of 6 String
Drag) + Ian King

Radio 2's Bob Harris writes, "I love Neal Casal's music. He seems to
me to have the same kind of magic as the late Nick Drake. I think his
songs will similarly mature like fine wine". The amazing Neal Casal
returns to the UK after a successful Glitterhouse Alternative Country
Review in October with Hazeldine and The Good Sons. This New Jersey
singer songwriter has played in southern rock band Blackfoot and sang on
Smashing Pumpkin James Iha's solo album "Let It Come Down". To date has
recorded 5 stunning albums of his own, the latest of which "Basement
Dreams" will be given full UK release around the time of this gig.
Support tonight from former lead singer of 6 String Drag - Kenny Roby -
who is preparing a solo album on Steve Earle's label E-Squared.

Support from Barnsley born and raised singer songwriter Ian King.
He's lead a varied life to date. On leaving school at 16 he went to work
in the Yorkshire coalfields. It was in the working men's clubs that he
started playing live. The musical journey took him busking in Europe,
living in America, and touring the UK supporting the likes of Billy
Bragg, Joan Jett and Toyah; and in 1997 playing in the trad. Irish
vocal group Anuna. He is a truly gifted singer - and his own songs are
maturing fast. Influences include Gram Parsons, Ry Cooder, Lennon &
McCartney, Elvis Costello, Ricky Scaggs, to mention but a few.

Saturday 19th June 1999 at THE SPITZ (7/6)

A Nick Drake Tribute Evening Part 3
with Malcolm Darwen, Caroline Kendall, Mel Garside, Sid Stronach, Amanda
Thorpe amongst other special guests.

Nick Drake was a quintessential British Singer-Songwriter that has
inspired musicians and bands such as Paul Weller, Radiohead to REM.
"He created a highly original guitar technique for which he is
justifiably respected. He honed the ability to write songs of lasting
power and beauty, and developed a unique artistic persona and vocal
style", writes Robin Frederick in MOJO. He died tragically aged 26 on
the 25th November 1974. Following nights I held last year at The 12-Bar
Club, to mark what would've been his 51st birthday - I have asked
several musicians - who all cite Nick as one of their greatest
influences - to perform a selection of his songs. If you're a recent
Nick Drake convert you'll be treated to some modern day interpretations
of some of the best songs ever written.
