Somehow I feel there is no need for plpgsql in what you are doing and that
indeed the ST_AsEwkt is too much.
I can't wrap my head around what this script is exactly trying to do
though. Can you elaborate a bit on your use-case? What is the original data
and what would you like to know from it?

Hi Juan,
I'm not sure I understand your question. Do you mean that you want to
simplify the polygon so it has less points? In that case, use ST_Simplify
before your ST_AsKml function.
Read more about it over here: https://postgis.net/docs/ST_Simplify.html

Brent,
It is generally a better idea to serve your raster from a filesystem
instead of postgis. Postgis only makes sens if you want to query on your
raster data (i.e. give me the number of cells containing water within
distance K of point X), otherwise it only gives needless overhead.
Another opt
Yes, this should be done with the ST_Equals function:

Hi Gerard,
Considering that your points will always be in the heart of your polygons,
an ST_Intersects would be faster than ST_Within. 1000 points x 1000
polygons should not be a problem at all in this matter, but you might
consider adding a spatial index to the polygons.
On a side note: if your G

Your query seems a bit complicated and I'm not sure what you are trying to
do in it. Maybe you could simplify it a bit? Or at least give a real world
example of what you are trying to do? For sure try to set a projection
(SRID) to your geometries before turning them into rasters.

Hi Das,
I had to look three times to your email to notice the tricky difference
between *LWGEOMFromWKB and *geomfromewkb() (notice the extra 'e'?)
Seems you're trying to import an dump from an older version of postgis
(1.5?) into a newer 2.2 version. There will be a lot more problems than

Cedric,
Are you sure rasters are enabled in your new postgis dbase? Please check
for the existence of raster functions (st_bandmetadata in particular) in
public.functions and run SELECT postgis_full_version()

We did some automated exports from postgis raster and vector to an anuga
flood model and put the results back into postgis for presentations.
Involved quite some python glue in between but in the end the postgis
database is usefull for administration of your data. Especially if you want

Hi Juli,
I think you were close but made a mistake in the aggregates.
Try to split your functionality with the help of 'WITH' statements and
see if you can do the grouping in that way in a subselect.
Something like:
WITH clips AS (
SELECT p.ecoregion_cod, ST_Union(ST_Clip(r.rast,1, p.geom,
Hi Ahmet,
It depends on how you would like to have the values returned.
If it's an average (or some other kind of statistics) I think you need a
two step approach:
1) Clip the raster where it intersects with the polygon:
http://postgis.net/docs/RT_ST_Clip.html
2) Do you stats on the resul
I think 3D is still in it's infancy in the world of GIS, so for many
things you have to things manually.
If it's just visualizing, you may try to export them as X3D and open
them in an X3D capable viewer.

Hi,
A straight skeleton might be what you need:

I know there are some blog posts on this but couldn't find them that
quickly.

I bumped into this as well, but it is by design and the solution is

Hi Oliver,
I think you question is more for the postgres user list, since it hasn't

Nevertheless, you can look into window functions of postgres where you
are able to get the value of the 'next' row, based on a sorting with

Hi Olivier,
Thanks, I'll play around with the functions and come back to you with
some more specific questions.
In the meantime, it seems that the function is spelled incorrectly. I
think it should be ST_Tessellate.

Hi,
I'm starting to experiment with the SFCGAL functions in postgis like
ST_Tesselate(), especially with the idea to create TINS with breaklines
out of pg_pointcloud and vector data.
The functions are working as expected, however I notice that the

Hi Luca,
The topology functions are not in the public schema so you have to add
the explicit schema 'path' to the function.
Also, you got the function name wrong, it should be 'AsTopoJson'.
Try this: select topology.AsTopoJSON(topology) from
