What are the three measurements? Is it reasonable to assume that knowing three
measurement values tells you the location ie is there a unique x,y for each
triple of measurements?

I'm not sure whether this can be done completely via PostGIS or it needs some
programming. Anyway, at this step no problem with programming if Knowing the

I have point shapefile (arranged like a grid) and for each point there is 3
similar measurements (obtained via 3
platform for testing for a year.

I'm so sorry. i was so mad because i didn't find ST_IsValidReason function

Thanks to PostGIS and its developers, it works nice.
Also, i found an option in OpenJump for validating features.

built by the database (by GEOS, in this case) it is built according to
the known topology rules we want, and hence is more likely to be
valid.

Hi all.
I was reviewing postgis workshop presented in FOSS4G 2007. it presents a trick
like this for making invalid features valid:
UPDATE bc_voting_areas
SET the_geom = ST_Buffer(the_geom, 0.0)
WHERE gid = 4897;
I'm wondering how it works in background!!!. I mean how buffering with zero

Is there any other way to get SRID of data?

Hi all.
I just wonder if there is a code for doing 2 shapefile union and intersection,
all geometries by doing geometry by geometry and thus giving the result as a
new shapefile. Is there any or i should write my own?

Hi all.
Sorry for elementary question. but i didn't find anything to support PostGIS in
.NET environment.
just some driver for Java.
I mainly wanna make a desktop GIS applications and it sounds PostGIS helpful to
be used as a back-end to manage large number of shapefiles. So, is there a way
