Greetings to 'ya,
I just got a 1400c 133. It indicates that the battery
is charged but when I try to start with the power
supply disconnected I get a few seconds of horizontal
lines covering part of the screen, some odd clicks,
and then nothing,
I have to push the reset button before it will
I would say probably so, I boot my PB3400 with an iMac OS9.04 CD. As well
as install OS with it. (that is a hack if you will, but works and is rock
stable with the 9.1 update)

Subject: powerbook 5300 inverter board use?
Hello,
I have a powerbook 5300ce with an active matrix screen. The screen shimmers
and this is especially noticeable with the lines on a dialogue box. Someone
suggested it could be the inverter board.
Could someone tell me what an inverter board does?

Inverter is an electrical word of art for a device which can change one
voltage, usually lower, into another

I've been given will work with my PB5300? The donor

Is it possibly the cause of the shimmer problem,
and would an inverter
board from a powerbook 190cs work to replace one in
a 5300?
Others have suggested I need to buy the Sanyo cable
for the LCD screen, but
OK, with all the talk of power inverters for active or passive matrix screens I'm
going to have to show my ignorance and ask a question or two. Just what is the
difference between an active vs. passive matrix screen? Can I tell which I have just
by looking at my PowerBook's (or any

Passive matrix screens do have one very good thing about them...that same
blurring you see at an angle makes it much harder for OTHERS to see your
screenmakes for increased privacy. That said, I do have a 1400cs and
noticed the line mentioned...I wasn't aware that it was normal and I'm glad
Hi all
I have a 1400cs soon to be fitted with a 233MHz G3. I'm hoping to max the
memory soon and I wanted to ask if anyone has a 1400 with max memory and a
G3 upgrade to see what newer software I'll be able to use. I know OS X is
out of the question but It will run 9.1 or 9.2 correct? also will

Yes! Thats it. I forgot to mention that... the line
is dark colored, so it will be most visible under a
light background. If you use a dark wallpaper, it's
unlikely you'll

I've not run Flash on mine yet but Dreamweaver/Fireworks does fine; Flash,
I should install and see...but it has to be less intensive than Photoshop!

Thanks Brian
I'll likely be doing mostly regular flash and Photoshop stuff. I was
thinking that the memory limit of 64meg was going to be a problem but maybe
not as bad as I thought.

Hi Gary,
I used to have a maxed-out 1400 (G3 processor 64 MB RAM) and ran OS 9
(maybe even 9.1) and, significantly for me, Bryce. RAM is probably going
to be your limiting factor.

By the way, it is an Auto Adapter or an AC Adapter, nobody makes
a Auto AC Adapter to the best of my knowledge, although it would be
nice. This would be a single power supply that could use either AC
mains power or auto power. Possible but I know of none unfortunately.
