Hello. I've just bought a brand new Asante FriendlyNet Integrated PCMCIA/Cardbus Ethernet card for my secondhand PB1400. The PB1400's is only 16-bit PCMCIA II (with Zoomed Video), Cardbus is the newer 32-bit standard which shipped with later Powerbooks. Most likely the Asante card only works

I did not upgrade from 7.6.1 to 8.1 until a few weeks ago, but upgraded to a third-party G3 on my 1400cs last fall. Never had problem one with the lower OS and my G3. The only reason I upgraded to 8.1 was I had the 8.0 box lying around, and I got more RAM installed, finally. Hope that helps with
