I think you bought a cardbus card, which would not work with your 1400.
1400 has the older pcmcia standard which is only 16 bit compatible. Your
card requires the newer, 32-bit standard. You need to get the 16-bit
version of the card.

A few issues here. The PB1400 and earlier PBs doesn't support SCSI
Manager 4.3. For a more detailed guide to burning CDs on PB1400s and
earlier, go here:

The tests were done with Toast 4.0 (which, at the time, refused to

Hello all,
It seems that these were the last versions to support M68k and also are
no longer available from Connectix. Does anyone out there have a copy of
these 2 packages that they would care to sell?
Thanks,
William

I'd appreciate any recommendations for locales with the best

I just joined the list. Are there are any Outbound owners/users here?
Hey, happy to see you here! Wish I had an Outbound, myself.
Hi Cameron. It's a pleasant surprise to find you here.

What's an Outbound?
Back in the early nineties (late 80's?) Outbound made unlicensed Mac
clones by scavenging ROMs from existing Macintoshes. All the clones
they made were laptop and notebook models. They had some very cool
Jeff, That's a real interesting unit. Never seen an Outbound before of any
version. I suppose it will probably become a collector's item one of these
days, especially w/ that IR link. It's also interesting that
http://www.everymac.com does not list 'every mac' after all.

Has anybody successfully used one of these with their 1400?
I was able to with my 2400 using Airport software.
Appreciate any feedback?
Thanks

Does anyone know from experience that:
a) MSWord 5.1A will run under OS8.1
b) any G3 upgrades for a 1400c will run with OS7.6.1
Thanks!

Hello.
I've just bought a brand new Asante FriendlyNet Integrated
PCMCIA/Cardbus Ethernet card for my secondhand PB1400.
The PB1400's is only 16-bit PCMCIA II (with Zoomed Video), Cardbus is
the newer 32-bit standard which shipped with later Powerbooks.
Most likely the Asante card only works
Thanks for the OutBound info. Interesting, the business side of it, too.

I did not upgrade from 7.6.1 to 8.1 until a few weeks ago, but upgraded to
a third-party G3 on my 1400cs last fall. Never had problem one with the
lower OS and my G3. The only reason I upgraded to 8.1 was I had the 8.0 box
lying around, and I got more RAM installed, finally. Hope that helps with
Fascinating. Yes, it makes me wish I had one of these hanging about in the
basement. If anyone comes across an available one, do please post the news.
Sometimes these sorts of machines are left in trash heaps at big places like
universities, but I didn't know of any the last time our U purged one
Even an old PC network card that doesn't have Mac drivers
will show up as a network card on my PB1400.
What type of network card? If it was a 3C589 series EtherLink-type card,
try this:
