useable and/or highest OS is you would suggest for a PB 5300cs I've used 7.5.5 to 8.6. 7.6.1 seems to be the best overall, but that's subjective as hell. 8.1, 8.5, 8.5.1 use about twice as much RAM, and there's a noticeable difference in boot times whether hot or cold. 7.6.1 seems to do best.

Hi Folks! I'm new to powerbooks and this list and hope I can tap all your apparent wisdom. I recently acquired an excellent loaded PB 3400/180, and would like to use USB with it to enable me to use an IDE/USB hard drive to back up the drives on my 3400 as well as my 8500/G3 using retrospect.

Well, I haven't heard much about the whole thing, but I read on the web (Low End Mac I think it was) that the 3400 is already cardbus enabled, so I would have thought that you could just add any Mac compatible cardbus card in, and away you go, without the 'conversion'. But I am not certain on any
