I certainly agree that I wouldn't pay $300 for the upgrade when you can still get a complete 1400 for about $50-$100 - just seems disproportionate. Too bad you can't either put more RAM in a 1400, or drop in the processor upgrade on a 3400, 'cuz I have both, and they both are kinda dead-ended in terms of upgrade potential.
But I got the 1400 for $10, and the 3400 for free, so I can't complain!
Ciao!

You can impress no one with a faster 1400. ( unless it is real cheap to buy the accellerator) better to put the money toward a Pismo or iBook. And get more features too.
I have a 1400 as you know but I can't see a $ 300.00 investment in it.

Has anybody on this list got a feel for or an opinion about the subject of
"diminishing returns" for processor upgrades on a PB1400? What I'm wondering
is whether a Sonnet 466MHz G3 upgrade is mostly wasted money because the
33MHz system bus can't use any (or much of) processor power above a certain
level anyway. In other words, maybe a 233MHz G3 upgrade gets most (>90%) of
the performance improvement that a 466MHz upgrade would get because of the
very low system bus speed. Anyway I'm open to hearing your opinions on the
topic. Thanks. John Hixson
