I've managed to get the 'book, after 6 hours of work, to now boot off of
the CF startup unit, but I can't get it to work properly from the hard
drive. Doing a clean install from 8.1 fails, as does upgrading, or even
just dragging the system folder from the CF to the HD and going from
there.
Hello. I am the new owner of a (free) PB 520c. It came without any
cords, etc, but after fetching an AC adapter I was surprised to find it
powers up and into OS 7.6.1. Unfortunately it is devoid of an
Applications folder, so no apps yet.
My ambitions are modest - I don't need a new processor
Questions:
Where can I get good Apps, for free or real cheap?

The low end mac swap list of course ! :^)

I'm not unixy at all frankly. I'm an everyday user who's probably
getting in over his head with this 'book. I'm a swimmer though, so
I'll survive.

I would strongly recommend you find a copy of RamDoubler for that machine,
regardless of how much memory you end up putting in it--and if you can
find one (and they do show up on ebay occasionally--2.5 SCSI notebook
drives), a larger HD for the machine. Having used a 520c for several
years

Your best option is to rebuild the battery pack, since any 500 series
battery you can find has
