I recently acquired a PowerBook 180c. It came with a power adapter and a battery. I plugged it in (without the battery) and pushed the power button. The screen came on and it made the start up sound and then it just turned off. I took it apart and tried several things with it in pieces.

This reminds me, too, that there's another, separate issue with the color 1xx PBs (the 165c/180c). They need a 24 watt adaptor, to start up with their color screens. If you use an earlier adaptor, you can start up with a charged batt in, but not just the adaptor. (I discovered this with my 165c
