What is fail to boot?  Flashing  disk icon, or just sitting there
blank-screened?

Did you zap the PRAM?  I think Bruce might have mentioned that before, I
don't recall if you said you had or not.

I've seen a situation (n=2 actually) where a desktop that had booted from a
ZIP disk, got something entered in the PRAM that REALLY WANTED a bootable
zip else it would fail to startup.  Zapping the PRAM fixed it.  Almost the
same problem, yours could be getting hung up scanning the SCSI bus and
never proceeding to the internal drive.

PRAM reset: This is different from the power manager, as I'm sure you know.
