I have the same problem. However I did notice if I put the 1400 to sleep as opposed to it going in to sleep by itself (especially on battery power), it will wake up without problem. For the last 2 weeks it was fine, then today I got the checker-board when waking from sleep. Hm kinda

You are "stepping on" the system heap when you restart, which causes the system to crash. This is common with PowerBooks. They use a lot of "real" memory when they wake up. Both my 3400c's and my 1400c do this. This was, also, pretty common with older Macs that had smaller amounts of RAM. I am

My PB 1400 works fine, but when I put it to sleep sometimes it will not wake up, The screen comes up with the grey black/white dotted image, but The HD doesn't spin, nor does it make any noise, The only way to fix this is by a reset, is there a way to fix this... Specs: 40MB RAM Virtual Memory set
