Okay, I have a big problem. A few days ago "Santa" overheard my husband on the phone talking to a friend about how cool ipods and other mp3 players are.
I don't know a thing about mp3. What he wants is a player to load all his old favorites -- all his cd's, maybe a bit of vinyl. He doesn't listen to much of anything new. (A few years ago I bought Peak LE planning to turn his classic vinyl into CD's, I know how to do that, although I never finished the project.) Okay, so I strated to research portable MP3 players, and I wasn't too surprised to find out that very few of them work with mac os 8.6. I'd like to know if anyone on the list uses any kind of mp3 player with a usb pc card (like a macally) on a powerbook, like a 2400, 1400 or a 3400 under 8.6. I also need some help with the finer points of creating decent mp3's. Is it better to create aiff's then convert them to mp3's, or is it better to create mp3's directly? Does anyone have any good recommendations for a programs that can do this that will run on a 3400? Any help at all, any help whatsoever about mp3's would be greatly appreciated! -- PowerBooks is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
