Hello Dick,
I purchased a new battery for my Powerbook 145B from
www.batteryvalues.com last October after a lot of web surfing, and
have been very impressed with the performance of the Ni-Mh compared
to the Ni Cad originals. I was lucky to get 2 hours before, but now
get up to 4 hours word
Dick,
Primecell and www.power-for-less.com offer batteries for 100 series
PowerBooks.

ANY 100-series Powerbook battery will do, in fact.
The PB145 will draw about 2.5A at startup, and 1.75-2.0A in normal
use (with backlight on). If you can find ANY good 100-series battery,
it will fit the slot, and power

This statement is misleading.
PowerBook 190 and 190c batteries will not work in any other PowerBook
1xx machine.
But then again, the 190/190c is really more of a 5300 than a 1xx series.

Not on me, but I think I can help you to find one. First, I'd look for it at:
http://www.nexcomp.com
If they don't sell one (I was able to get two batteries for my PB 190 for
$24.99 each) for the PB 145, try doing a google

Do these batteries charge while in the PB, or do you need
a separate charger?

I have in fact, TWO, both of which have been rebuilt (all new cells),
and neither of which I can spare. The unleashed working time of these
things is usually about an hour, even with rebuilt batteries. ugh.
I never had a separate charger, and have always just charged them in
the PB. Often
