Hi Clark,
I don't see such a fuse set-up in my 3400, if you're
talking about the casing.
My problem is that the 3400 will only boot normally if
an external SCSI device is attached and powered up.
Otherwise, the internal HDD stalls during the start-up
(after the smiley face and during the bar

Have you confirmed it's the ADB controller and not the trackpad.

Tom,
Try as I might I could not cross reference that PMU chip, let me Know if you
do.
Thanks

At this point, it looks like you will have to scrounge them from 5300
and 1400 motherboards. No big loss, those are much cheaper than 3400
mobos. I will attempt a transplant today.
The
I just transplanted the PMU chip from a 5300 to my 180 Mhz 3400c
board (exact same chip). Unfortunately it still has the same
symptoms; the unit will bong, get the the question mark disk, with
the cursor stuck in the upper left corner. No ADB function, nor does
the trackpad. The HD spins up

Tom,
If you're looking at the top side of the motherboard there 2 large high
density chips near the center of the board, one of them is labeled PMU that is
the bad chip, I also have several bad 3400 logic boards with this same
problem, the primary symptom of the problem is usually that the
I was looking over my 3400 boards and one of them uses the same PMU
chip as the 5300, while others use a -B version of the chip. So, I
am hoping that all the 3400 can use either the 3400 or 5300 PMU chip.

also where do you get all the bits from as you seem to have a never ending
supply.
I have an addiction to buying computer parts. I dont know if there is a cure.
After some further inspection, the 1400 motherboard seems to have the
same -B PMU unit. Can someone else inspect some of thier 1400 mobos
to confirm this ? Ebay usually has cheap 1400 mobos, so that can be
an easy source for the IC.

thanks for the page will get round to that mod later in the week.
will also get around to sending all my results of compatible parts to who
ever wants to list them as i do not have a web page.
just lots of experiment pages.
