Yes, I was going to say that I considered both those others before
choosing a 3400. The speed, display, RAM capacity, as I recall, made up my
mind for me. The 3400 is a great powerbook, if you can locate one in your
price range, which you may well be able to do with PB prices coming

I remember reading that the 1400 keyboard was good. I find the 5300
keyboard nearly intolerable.

Hmmm... I too like the 1400 keyboard but don't recall disliking the 5300
one. The one I find really nearly intolerable is the iBook (tangerine).

Just noticed they raised the price to near $500. They have the 5300cs for
$299 right now.

Not quite true. I checked Overstock.com. The $299
price is for a 5300cs. THe 3400 price is $495.
