Powerbook 520 modem settings - need help

i need your help, guys... i have a 520c that i'm trying to "revive" to give to a cousin of mine it has an internal modem but i can't get it to work i keep getting messages saying it cant find a dial tone appletalk is on and i am using OS 7.5.5 also, what browser and mail program would you guys rec
