Craig,
Will it start up normally with nothing connected?, if it does check the
monitor control panel for proper setup, or you may have a bad adapter, this
adapter is designed to connect to an Apple display. If it won't display by
itself, could be interconnect board/cable or display itself.

I have a Powerbook 180 sand screen(!) that I was trying to use via the
monitor port in the rear.
Hooking up the base of the PB180 to a monitor & keyboard, I got it to startup
and light up the screen, but nothing appears but a blank lighted screen.
I hear the HD/floppy clicking and whirring
