Command-Shift-K at the installer window will get you to the option to do a Clean 
Install in system 7.5.x and 7.6.x.  It's not necessary to do the System Folder rename 
(it is necessary for older OS versions, IIRC).

One possibility:  I'd intended to do a clean system install, but got started before 
remembering that in system 7.x it's necessary to rename the system folder & file 
first.  Maybe it would be worthwhile to go back and reinstall?
