I regularly take my trackball from my 170 and wash it with soap and
water. The oils on the fingers transfer easy.

I wouldn't squirt ANYTHING down there.
just remove the trackball and clean the rollers that are in there.
I (gently) use a pair of tweezers to remove the buildup of grime.
