I only ever use one card at a time, and I always put
it in the top slot. But I'll try some combinations and
see what happens. So far I've been successful with all
the cards I've ever used in it.

I used localtalk to take my 5300 from 7.5 to 8, 8.5
and then 8.6. It does take a VERY long time. Hours
and hours. I now have a docking connector.

I am so glad! Yeah, that was us, too. We were
imagining all kinds of terrible problems. Someone
above mentioned hard drive problems, and we considered
that, too. We call this procedure the "drastic hard
reset", and it has saved us several times now.

I'm just curious, but what were you doing with the
powerbook before it gave a the green light? In one
case, I had left the powerbook asleep in my knapsack
for too long, and in another, there was a storm and
the power went out while I was using the ac adapter
with a very low battery. The book put itself to sleep,
and then I couldn't wake it up.

I run 8.6 too. Have you tried the new iCab? I find it
much better than either of the browsers you mentioned.
There are things that irritate me about IE and NS
both, althought sometimes I do use IE.
