Question: is the clicker/trackpad assembly for the
5300 the same as that for the 3400? I could possibly
replace the damaged one and wedge the ribbon with a
piece of thin plastic.

I got a replacement motherboard and the clip for the
tracker/clicker ribbon is missing. External kb and
mouse work fine. Is there a good way of inserting the
ribbon? Attempts so far have resulted in some damage
to the ribbon. I will try a thin piece of plastic as a
shim.

thought I might share this with you . . . got water in the keyboard
of my 3400 (oops) and it simply wouldn't dry ever out.
I even put it on a tin plate (removed from the pb!) on the wood-stove
to drive the water out - and it got a bit better but no joy - the
reboot key was still registering a
