I have also seen reports that Panther (OS X 10.3) may support ZIP
compression at the system level. However, this seems unlikely given the
lack of a "common standard" for ZIP compression. 

What may be of more concern to CTM is if Apple Mail starts to support
"standard" encryption and digital signatures for e-mail, such as those
offered by VeriSign etc. PM's inability to support such systems means
that I am forced to use Outlook (on a Windows PC) for e-mail with one of
my clients.
