I have been using Carbon Copy Cloner (CCC) for a long time, and I am
still using it with success. The only time when there were problems was
on Tiger before 10.4.2 because some aspect of the OS APIs (I believe
some AppleScript stuff that had to do with authentication) was broken.
So in 10.4.1 for

drive, a fully bootable sparse image. there are only a few (system)
files it will not copy which are seemingly recommended by apple not to
copy, but nothing that would hinder you to use the backup fully after.

yes, similar, but I hadn't liked DejaVu because of the network backup.
SuperDuper! works just fine over the network, even to mounted external
firewire drives on the network server.
