Horror in Haiti – imperialism to blame
By UK Socialist Appeal Editorial Statement
There
is a manmade element to the catastrophe confronting Haitians. The
country doesn’t just happen to be poor; it has been made poor and kept
poor. Haiti is the poorest country in the Western hemisphere, with the
worst infrastructure and a people most vulnerable to disaster and
disease, because of the machinations of imperialism. Although the
earthquake could not be avoided, the scale of death and destruction
clearly could have been avoided.

Nigerian Labour Party 3rd National Convention held in Abuja
By RashyA
Labour Party was created in the recent period in Nigeria. This had been
a long time coming, but unfortunately many renegades from various
bourgeois parties have jumped on the bandwagon using the party to
promote their own careers. The Marxists maintain that the party must be
tightly linked to the Nigerian Labour Congress and the workers must
take control of the party if it is to become the true voice of the
Nigerian working class.

Ireland: Public sector strikes begin - ICTU needs a clear strategy
By Fightback Editorial Board
The
trade union campaign against the wage cuts announced in Lenihan’s
December budget will begin to escalate over the next few weeks as
different groups of workers across the public sector take action in
what is being portrayed as an ongoing campaign of selective action.
Today the air traffic controllers are coming out, which will have a
dramatic and very public effect on air travel. It’s likely that the
workers concerned in the various selective actions will receive strike
fund support in many cases and as such the campaign could continue for
a considerable time. But what is the underlying situation and what are
the issues for the movement?

By Caio DezorziSituação
de calamidade após desastre natural revela para todo o mundo que a
Missão da ONU, já há 5 anos e meio no Haiti, não tem resolvido problema
algum, senão garantido a perpetuação de um sistema de exploração e
miséria de todo um povo.
