- Total number of bodies found yesterday (February 4, 2005) in Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam (NAD) province by retrieval teams is 721. The number consists of: - Banda Aceh and Aceh Besar: 684 - West coast: 37 - Total number of bodies found and buried to date in 15 regencies in Aceh: 112,872 - Total number of people missing to date remains 127,749 Food and Non-Food Distribution - Distribution of logistics for IDPs in the badly damaged west coast area will be supported by the following: - 20 Bugis traditional ships - 6 of them are already ready for operation in Malahayati port - 10 helicopters by the UN World Food Program (WFP) - Construction of warehouses (already available in Calang and Meulaboh) - According to the Aceh province Social Bureau, the total stock of rice in the province is 28,953 tons, which is adequate for a 4-month supply - The amount of food and non-food items distributed yesterday (February 4, 2005) includes, among others: - Rice: 46 tons - Cooking oil: 2,216 boxes - Drinking water: 354 boxes - Biscuits: 400 boxes - Clothes: 3,600 pieces - The amount of food and non-food items distributed to date includes: - Rice: 4,703 tons - Instant noodles: 48,833 boxes - Salted fish: 44.7 tons - Cooking oil: 13,898 boxes - Sugar: 2.99 tons - Fish (canned sardines): 2,514 boxes - Milk: 95,702 boxes - Drinking water: 7,857 boxes - Biscuits: 34,013 boxes - Blankets: 24,046 pieces - Clothes: 170,783 pieces - Sanitary napkins: 8,862 pieces - Sarongs: 10,717 pieces - Stoves: 2,903 pieces - Plates: 253,620 plates Health - The total number of patients that have received medical assistance in Aceh province to date has reached 39,603 patients - In order to support medical efforts, the USNS Mercy Hospital ship with a capacity of 1,000 beds has been anchored in Banda Aceh waters since February 3 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and Relocation - The number of IDPs remains an estimated 412,438 in 66 locations throughout 18 regencies/cities in NAD Report from Meteorology and Geophysics Agency (BMG) - BMG's Banda Aceh post reported five minor earthquakes yesterday (February 4, 2005) ranging from 4.0 - 4.9 on the Richter scale - Although BMG reassured the community that these earthquakes were not dangerous, the agency advised members of the community to avoid badly damaged structures while carrying out the clean-up process Report from Telkom and PT Pos - National telecommunications company Telkom reported that it has completed the restoration of 42% of its network in Aceh province (17,847 telephone lines) - State-owned postal company PT Pos has started to implement the Food Distribution System, in coordination with the Aceh province Social Bureau and the World Food Program (WFP) in order to ensure proper distribution of aid to IDPs Report from United Nations Agencies - The conclusion of a quick environmental impact assessment carried out by the Indonesian Ministry of Environment and a UN environmental expert determined that the destroyed chemical depots and other potentially dangerous areas are not likely to pose serious health risks to the population - Together with the Indonesian government, the UN Development Program (UNDP) will set up a system of municipal waste collection as well as a tsunami waste recovery facility in Banda Aceh to reduce the environmental impact of tsunami waste - The UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has so far provided assistance to 40,000 IDPs. Current activities include the distribution of 18 tons of shelter materials to the isolated Krueng Sabe village south of Calang - The International Organization of Migration (IOM)'s transport fleet has transported over 7,000 metric tons of relief by road to date, while the medical team has treated over 140 patients.
