Refleksi: Hello Pertamina, lihatlah pada Pertonas.
http://www.arabnews.com/?page=6§ion=0&article=66517&d=6&m=7&y=2005 Wednesday, 6, July, 2005 (29, Jumada al-Ula, 1426) Petronas Expands With Major Joint Ventures Mushtak Parker, Arab News KUALA LUMPUR, 6 July 2005 - It caught the world headlines a few years ago when the Malaysian Prime Minister Dr. Mahathir Mohamed inaugurated the Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur city's "Golden Traingle". Petroliam Nasional Berhad, the Malaysian national oil company, otherwise known as Petronas, is also catching the imagination as one of the fastest growing global oil majors. It has investments, joint ventures or interests in a staggering 34 countries to date including in IDB-member countries such as Yemen, Turkmenistan, Togo, Niger, Pakistan, Sudan, Morocco, Mauritania, Niger, Mozambique, Chad, Egypt, Iran, Gabon, Cameroon, Benin, and Algeria. In 2004 Petronas almost doubled its year-on-year net profit from $3.9 billion to $6.2 billion. Profits for 2005 are projected to hit in excess of $9 billion. Revenues similarly increased from $21.4 billion in 2003 to $25.7 billion in 2004; and total assets increased from $46.9 billion to $53.5 billion for the same period. In terms of net profit, Petronas is in the top ten league of global oil majors, although well behind such giants as Saudi Aramco and ExxonMobil. Both the erstwhile Mahathir and the current Badawi governments have encouraged Malaysian corporates and investors to venture into countries on the basis of Malaysia's national interests; and in the case of developing countries on the basis of South-South cooperation and smart partnerships; and in the case of fellow OIC countries on the basis of promoting intra-Islamic trade and unity. The rationale is that change and reform can be influenced through economic development and success underpinned by trade and investment on a win-win basis. And Malaysia's successful and hitherto proven model could be the generic example for these countries to follow. Both Sudan and Myanmar are emerging as reasonably sizeable oil producers. In Sudan, Petronas is involved in both upstream and downstream activities. In 1999, it started producing crude oil from three oil fields, Blocks 1, 2 and 4, in a joint venture with the Greater Nile Petroleum Operating Company, the China National Petroleum Corporation, India's ONGC Videsh, and Sudapet (Sudan National Oil Company). It is also involved in exploration in five other fields in Sudan with various partners including Sudapet, OMV, and IPC Sudan. Petronas's Mohd Azhar Khairuddin is coy about the company's strategy toward southern Sudan, which also has potentially big oil deposits. However, Petronas existing investment infrastructure in Sudan puts it in pole position to expand southward on the basis of economies of scale and local knowledge for both the corporate and the country. In Myanmar Petronas is involved in oil and gas exploration and production in joint ventures with Thai and Japanese companies. However, in countries such as South Africa where Petronas has a large interest in downstream activities especially in refining and product retailing, the business environment is more difficult to call. The reserve life of Malaysia's oil supplies is 18 years and gas supplies of 34 years. This amounts to total reserves of 19,345 million barrels of oil equivalent (BOE). In addition Petronas has 6, 288 million BOE in its international reserves at end 2004, up from 4,7759 million BOE in 2003. Malaysia produces about 750,200 barrels per day of crude oil, and with the international strategy of Petronas, the company's total global crude oil production could eventually top the 1 million mark.
