*WB: 2008 Olive Harvest Campaign on Oct. 15 * RAMALLAH, September 8, 2008 (WAFA) -The International Solidarity Movement (ISM) called for volunteers to participate in "2008 Olive Harvest Campaign" in the West Bank (WB) on October 15 and run for approximately 6-8 weeks. "With rapidly escalating levels of Jewish colonizers violence in the West Bank, thousands of olive trees have been bulldozed, uprooted and burned by the Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) and colonizers", ISM said in a press release, "harvesting has become more than a source of livelihood; it has become a form of resistance." Since the olive tree is a national symbol for Palestinians, its harvest is an annual affirmation of Palestinians' historical, spiritual and economic connection to their land, and rejection of Israeli efforts to seize it. The ISM and the Palestinian communities invited pacifists and internationals to support and show solidarity with their resistance by working in the olive groves with them. "By doing so, activists can reduce the risk of extreme violence from IOF and colonizers through non-violent intervention and documentation," the press release said. The Human Rights Group B'Tselem recently issued a report detailing a sharp rise in colonizers violence, representing an escalation that has been underway for the past weeks, particularly around the Yitzhar and Bracha colonies in Nablus. This area will therefore be the focus point for this year's olive harvest campaign. [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
