She has approached the Shariah court and appealed to the governor to take steps to cancel her stepbrothers' legal control of her rightful property, a newspaper reported yesterday. Umm Zaynab's problems began a few years ago when she had serious disagreements with her husband after three years of happy married life, according to Al-Watan. At that time, she went to live with her mother who was married to Umm Zaynab's stepfather. Her husband subsequently divorced her without her knowledge. After her stepfather died, her stepbrothers would not allow her to live in their father's house any longer. Her mother was also driven out of the house. The brothers did not recognize the woman's legal right to live in her late husband's house. Umm Zaynab has also been denied the right to inherit property from her own dead father.
