He's right about that in a sense - the first time I installed Linux I
had to figure out what distro, then after picking Mandrake I ended up
without about 20 text editors for no apparent reason. Which is one
reason why Ubuntu is proving so popular - it takes away the choice to
some extent.

It's an ugly, ugly process to decide on which one of each of the tools
to include and exclude, I'm sure. But that is a good technique for a
