In fact, it was the other way around. ATT wireless was acquired by
Cingular. Afterward, they chose to take the ATT name, I suspect
because it is better known, but, as your post indicates, the new-old
name carries quite a lot of baggage.
I just heard the commercial and checked out the site (cingular.com). I
must say I'm sad by the news...I used to hate ATT. In fact, I was
happy to hear that SBT was buying them, as I thought that's the end of
ATT but it appears that ATT won out on that one too.
