My employers always said it was too expensive; I never had any problems
with DBCs but my apps created them on the fly and populated them with
remote views during object init.

If you can possible do so, get rid of DBC's as they will bite your bum. Its
not as easy as it looks. Have the wrong DBC open and you can get a real
mess.
