Job Description: Network Specialist
Network Specialist responsibilities include: reviewing and evaluating software
and network design issues, ensuring efficient data flow, scalability,
cost-efficiency,
and client needs specific to the datacenter relocation initiative;
participating
as a technical resource for deep dive site assessments; interfacing and
assisting
teams with network engineering; interfacing with other DoITT teams to ensure
that network changes flow efficiently; designing and coding router/switch
configurations
as required; implementing new processes/functions on routers and switches as
required, including but not limited to QoS, multicasting, NTP, VLAN
configurations,
TACACS, ISDN, HSRP, Content Networking, and advanced network routing; providing
advanced-level technical assistance for network problem as reported to the
Citywide Service Desk; documenting problem tickets regarding the resolution
of problems; providing advanced network assistance in new project development;
providing technical assistance on the feasibility of new projects;
participating
in developing implementation plans based on the data gathered from the deep
dive site assessments; assisting with the configuration of Cisco Unified Call
Manager for a distributed cluster IP telephony deployment; installing voice
modules and configuring Cisco IOS MGCP and H323 gateways with analog FXS, FXO
or digital T1 interface to PSTN; configuring Cisco IOS gatekeeper; installing
and configuring Cisco Unified Unity messaging with mixed mode licensing for
large-scale deployment; performing the integration of Cisco Unified Unity
servers
with Active Directory and Exchange for unified messaging; performing SRST
implementation
on various platforms; participating in program activities within an established
project methodology, including status reporting and strategic planning; and
coordinating special network projects as assigned.
MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS: PLEASE CONFIRM WITH YOUR CONSULTANTS THAT THEY MEET
BELOW REQUIREMENTS!!!
* Minimum 4 years of experience in the areas of installation, maintenance,
configuration and troubleshooting telecommunications equipment/failures,
including
but not limited to DSU/CSUs, network sniffers, switches, multiplexers
(including
SONET/DWDM) and associated cabling and power elements, in both data center
and remote (user) site environments;
* Experience working on the CITIServ project
* Ability to test and certify data circuits, such as analog, digital, inside
wiring (Cat-6, Cat-6A & Fiber) (Sub-rate DS0, DS0, DS1, DS3, OC3, BRI, PRI
and SONET);
* Ability to work with various Telco & ISP Broadband carriers, NOC, and/or
test centers to perform routine testing of data circuits and ISP services;
* Must have the ability to install, create and configure e-mail accounts,
troubleshoot
& manage VPN support of agency PCs;
* Ability to coordinate support from Internet Service Providers to diagnose
and correct circuit issues with cable modem, DSL, and ISDN;
* Strong background in IP networking concepts and their application to
Microsoft
based networking configuration ability to install, maintain, configure and
troubleshoot telecommunications lines, circuit equipment, including but not
limited to DSU/CSUs, switches, routers, multiplexers (including SONET) and
associated cabling and power elements, in both data center and remote (user)
site environments;
* Possess the ability to install, configure and test Switching in a WAN/LAN
environment Infrastructure Copper/Fiber support, including LAN hardware
(router,
switch), cabling (CAT6), network interface cards and topologies (Gigabit
Ethernet
and Fast Ethernet);
* Must have working knowledge of voice over IP to support implementation with
various switches (EG: Cisco, Avaya).
