East Jakarta to have Korea town in August To accommodate the interests of the growing Korean community and investment in Indonesia, a 3.1-hectare Korean town is being developed in Pulo Mas, East Jakarta.
Gi Man Song, president director of the Korea World Trade Center Indonesia -- which will build and manage the town -- said here Thursday the Korean town would mainly function as a business center to facilitate the country's investment in Indonesia. "But the town will also become a tourist attraction due to the unique architecture of its buildings," he said. Korean traditional architecture will be employed for most of the buildings. He said the town was under construction and would open in August. The project will create some 2,000 jobs. According to data from the trade center, the Korean population in Indonesia now amounts to 45,000, the largest in Southeast Asia, after Malaysia, which has a Korean population of 10,000. Gi Man Song said Korean investment in Indonesia continued to increase. Currently, Indonesia is South Korea's third-largest foreign investment destination after China and the United States, with total money reaching US$6.8 billion, employing around one million workers and generating annual exports worth $6 billion. "I expect, during the next two years alone, Korean businessmen will invest at least US$100 million in Indonesia, mainly in small- and medium-scale businesses," he said. He said many Korean investors had stated their interest in investing in Indonesian businesses. Moreover, investment opportunities in China have been seen as less attractive in recent years. He said that textiles, electronics, agribusiness, automotive, information technology and handicrafts would dominate business transactions in the Korean town. -- JP http://www.thejakartapost.com/detailnational.asp?fileid=20060303.G05&irec=9 Post message: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subscribe : [EMAIL PROTECTED] Unsubscribe : [EMAIL PROTECTED] List owner : [EMAIL PROTECTED] Homepage : http://proletar.8m.com/ Yahoo!
