Fidel receives Moto Méndez Cuban medical brigade

Yenia Matos Henríquez

COMANDANTE en Jefe Fidel Castro Ruz received last Tuesday night the Moto Méndez
Solidarity Mission Cuban medical brigade, which has been undertaking a
psycho-social and clinical genetic study in Bolivia.

In a message to the brigade doctors, the leader of the Revolution described the
work of the team as untiring and highlighted the courage that characterized the
brigadistas in confronting harsh climatic conditions. He also affirmed that the
most important thing was the example that they were passing on to the youth of
various countries who have recently began to work in solidarity with their
peoples.

Dr. Odalys Bravo Téllez, team leader, informed the Comandante of the brigade's
work in Bolivia, where they visited 1,529,825 homes and talked to more than
five million people, of which 82,087 demonstrated some disability.

Bravo Téllez also emphasized that the brigade, made up 213 specialists in
disabilities, Masters' graduates specializing in genetic assessment, clinical
geneticists, among others, left Cuba last March 4 and covered Bolivia's nine
departments, where they provided more than 10,000 genetic medical
consultations. The team also managed to reach 101 communities not recorded any
geographical map.

The doctor highlighted the support the brigade received from Cuban
representatives in Bolivia and from doctors who are completing a mission there.

The members of the Moto Méndez brigade received a diploma of recognition for
their work in Bolivian territory, conferred by Roberto González Martín, deputy
minister of public health. The physicians also received a copy of the book: Por
todos los caminos de la Sierra: La Victoria estratégica, by Comandante en Jefe
Fidel Castro Ruz, and signed by him.
