Indonesia condemns Israeli attacks on Lebanon JAKARTA : Indonesia has condemned escalating Israeli air raids on Lebanon and called for a resumption of the Middle East peace process. "We strongly deplore (the attacks) and hope that the peace process could be revived," foreign ministry spokesman Desra Percaya told AFP. President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono criticised the attacks during a visit to the tsunami-struck Aceh province. "Indonesia repeats its call for Israel to stop its military action," Yudhoyono said, according to the state Antara news agency. "The United Nations and the international community have to jointly take concrete steps to prevent an escalation of this armed conflict," he added. Israeli warplanes struck at the heart of Hezbollah's power base in pre-dawn raids Friday after a day of relentless attacks on Lebanon that left about 50 people dead and ignited fears of a regional war. The latest crisis was triggered when Hezbollah guerrillas seized two Israeli servicemen on the volatile Lebanon-Israel border Wednesday, leading to Israel's first ground incursion since it withdrew in 2000.
