Why with capital "M" and not simply "muHammadun rasūlu llāhi"? There is no distinction in the Arabic script between capital and non- capital letters. Therefore also in this passage we are fully entitled to read "muHammadun rasūlu llāhi", "praised be the messenger of Allah". --- In [EMAIL PROTECTED], "Dr. Christoph Heger" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: Greetings to all, Asif Iqbal acts more unintelligent than he actually can be. Now Asif Iqbal: > Christoph Heger's lack of proper acknowledgment of two of the four > coins in the photo as having been dated to as early as 73 AH/ 692-4 > CE, and 77 AH/ 696-7 CE, is really weird. Nonsense! Asif Iqbal will be astonished about the degree of my proper acknowledgement of not only these four coins, but of even earlier ones. Didn't he get my point that these early coins to some degree will compensate us for the striking lack of documents for early-Islam times? Is he even not aware of this striking lack, compared with the times before and after? > What is more appalling is his unawareness of even earlier > documented Arab efforts on minting coins, but which were not quite > successful. > > In this respect, I consider as most powerful the Syrian Quellen of > Nöldeke [original Syriac of the witness and its German rendering in: > ZDMG, xxiv, (1875), pp. 76-98]. Havn't you been able to find an even older paper, Asif? Or did the idea evade your awareness that in the meantime further research was done? Hopefully time will allow me to present some newer findings. > Christoph Heger makes an observation: > > > I wonder however why the author of this contribution to the > > Encyclopedia is so incautious as to assert that the 'Umayyad gold > > dinar, Damascus ca. 73/692-4 (on top of the picture) actually > > shows the shahada (the Islamic creed). > > This comment betrays Christoph Heger's ignorance of the stages of > development which the final form of the Islamic Shahāda underwent. Not at all! Asif Iqbal only acts as if he didn't get my point: that not only the "final form" of the later Islamic shahāda underwent a development, but also its understanding: a development from an original Christian understanding to its later understanding as the short form of the Islamic creed. Now Asif Iqbal quotes the Koran as if this book, as it is transmitted to us, were any historic evidence. Instead also this book shows the usual signs of Islamic re-interpretation of earlier elements. So also here: > "Muhammadun rasūlu llāhi," (Muhammad is the messenger of > God): 48:29.
