Thanks for your help, I'm now able to do what I want.
I can export a spread with all parts, sort for values, that
the parts with (*) asterix are at the geginning. Than I give all
this parts the value 'NOTUSED' and update schematic and later pcb.
Now it's possible to manipulate all parts with th
Well, I'm in Montreal.
The odd thing is that I already know of 4 other Protel designers locally. Like
me, you might find some Protel designers through some local board shops & assembly
houses. I just seemed to bump into them on the odd visit. Pure luck, I guess.

It's not a bug in Windows or Protel -- it's simply a design decision someone
at Protel made. There are times when it's useful to run multiple copies of
Protel, so it's good that they allow that. Since you can use drag-n-drop
from Explorer to open a file in an existing instance, it's not unreason

Don't know of any in the Toronto area, but most Service Bureaus have
"global" clients, and experienced designers are quite adept at asking
the important questions. And most have Autocad or CadKey to help
resolve mechanical issues.
Schematic compatibility isn't necessarily an issue; unless a schem

Any Protel designers in the Toronto area?
Hi, I am a lurker (engineer) that was considering Protel because I work
with a MFR that uses Protel, but I wanted them in the loop only AFTER the
first prototypes were built. This list has made me realize that the

Sometimes when you attempt to update the changes back to your schematics, the
update function does not work. I had this problem ages ago when attempting to
edit data in spreadsheet and it seemed only the first attempt ever worked. If
you did a couple of export/edit/update cycles then it just wou

just want to replace the whole designator field, just put the new value in

hello.. im running the trial verion of 99SE w/sp6 as im building a

After my partner drew up our schematic, I took a look and realized a
majority of the parts had the wrong default designator.. (Few hundred

That is the best way to do that.
If you use the windows explorer to open ddb's it wil open new protel

I normally work on multiple projects and i alwas use the file open command.

We've banned use of multiple users as it seems the semantics round it are

It fails sometimes - well sort of anyway.
On our relatively complex designs, update PCB sometimes misses out changes,
we have a rule that
it should be run 3 or more times to en

David,
Check to make sure that the schematic sheet server is still installed.
Click the down arrow next to the FILE menu item then select SERVERS. I have
more than once lost various servers from the list for no apparent reason and
has stopped me from opening the sheets whether it was schematic
Newer versions of M$ Windows ( 95 and so on) "understand" longer extentions, e.g.
.shtml from the www or .aiff for sound. It is sometimes annoyingly that this fact is
nearly unregarded, because you get in trouble when you have files of different types
but with the same "name".
But there would

I'd guess that as with so many things on PCs, it's for historical reasons -

There's probably a compatibility issue with earlier versions of Windows as

Hi,
Abdulrahman Lomax told me how to export data to spread.

As an aside...
Why don't companies use longer file extensions in an attempt to minimise
collisions? .sch has always been a pain, .schematic would be much more
reliable. Admittedly this is diminished with the database file.
