DXP Demo does allow this in schematic, just drop a component on top of a
wire and it will automatically cut and insert for you. Just one of the
many nice improvements I've seen in the 10 mins I just evaluated it for.

you are right, it is interesting but not very useful in my experience
i usually just delete the whole thing
actually when i draw wires i right click a lot to make smaller segments
so they will edit easier
