Blind users usually don't use any grid mode because it operates on a visual
basis. My guess would be a search in the reference guide will probably answer
the question however.

Identify Beat doesn't work in that manner. Identify beat identifies any given
point as a particular bar|beat. In other words, it doesn't work with
selections. You navigate to a particular point in the timeline, bring up
Identify Beat with Command-i and type in the bar/beat number it's
