I opened up a new session yesterday and noticed that everytime I stopped the
song and restarted it, it continued playing at the point I stopped the song and
did not go back to the origenal place were I assumed the currser would be. I am
sure that this is a simple answer, but I don't know it.

For your first question, it sounds like the Insertion Follows Playback
setting has been turned on. You can either go find the checkbox in
Preferences to uncheck it, or from memory, I think hitting N will
toggle that setting.
