PhotoImage only accepts .gif images. You can use PIL from effbot.org
if you want to use jpg (not sure if it will accept .png).

I am using a 2200 iPAQ with Win 2003. Unfortunitly, the only graphic
format I have been able to use is GIF using PhotoImage in Tk. My
problem is that some pictures display scrambled on the ipaq but not on a
normal pc. If I adjust the pixel size a little they seem to work.
